1. Pre-Dental Club Meeting, Monday, 11/23, at 6:30pm in 1001 Malott

The final pre-dental club meeting of the semester is scheduled for Monday November 23 at 6:30 pm in 1001 Malott. We will be distributing informational packets concerning dental school preparation and application, and will have a question and answer session with seniors who have applied. This is a great opportunity to learn everything you need to know about getting into dental school. Also, we have yet to meet our minimum order for club T-shirts. 2. Alternative Spring Break Programs - Sign-up Deadline is Friday, 12/4

The Alternative Breaks Team wants all of you to consider going on an Alternative Spring Break trip!

Alternative Breaks is a service learning organization dedicated to giving students hands-on opportunities with service work. Participants will gain experience with some of the most pressing social issues facing our generation.

As one of the biggest service learning initiatives at KU, we provide service trips for more than 200 students through our Winter, Spring, and Weekend Break programs.

This one-day workshop prepares select Kansas students to shadow physicians, observe doctor-patient communications, learn about the roles other healthcare professionals play, participate in community health programs, and write patient case summaries. www.kumc.edu/som/primarycareworkshop for more program details and application materials.

5. KU School of Medicine State Premedical Student Conference, Kansas State University, Saturday, 2/20/10

Join premedical students and advisors from across the state to learn more about the MCAT, receive tips to writing a slam dunk personal statement and financial aid. Take this opportunity to talk to current medical students about what it's like to be a "Jaydoc" and visit with practicing physicians about life after graduation. Future applicants will also have a chance learn about workforce development, our dual degree programs, and other new and helpful topics to prepare future applicants for their application to any medical school. 6. Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) Application - Deadline is 3/1/10

The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) is a free six week summer academic enrichment program for college freshman and sophomore students who are interested in a career in medicine or dentistry. The goal of the program is to prepare aspiring freshman and sophomores to become competitive applicants to medical and dental school.

SMDEP is implemented at the following 12 program sites across the nation.

7. Study Health Care in Sweden with KU, 5/18/10-6/1/10

The Department of Health Policy and Management in the School of Medicine and the Department of Sociology on the Lawrence campus in cooperation with the KU Office of Study Abroad is pleased to announce the 2010 summer study abroad class, Health Care and Social Policies in Sweden, offered on-site in Stockholm, Sweden, May 18-June 1, 2010. Both undergraduate and graduate credit can be awarded for successful completion of this 2 week, 3 credit course. The cost will be announced later; however, the cost for last year’s course, including hotel with breakfast, KU tuition, all local transportation and course materials was $3200 plus airfare. For academic advising, after your first year, you should declare or apply for admission to a major in the College, or apply for admission to one of KU's Professional Schools, regularly consult with an advising specialist or faculty advisor in your major department, and develop a full graduation plan, every course you plan to take every semester through graduation!
